Congratulations to Florida State Women’s Soccer!

This weekend, the Seminoles won their second National Championship in four years since entering into a technical partnership with CoachTech.

It’s no coincidence that teams who invest in analysis, and build clearer decision-making processes are experiencing sustained success on the field. Not only does committing to analysis and modern best-practices give you that extra 2,3 or 5% on a weekly basis, it’s a sign of an ambitious and forward thinking staff, who also are likely to search for marginal gains in other areas. It’s no surprise therefore, the Seminoles are considered one of the top Women’s Soccer programs in the nation.

CoachTech began a multi-faceted partnership with Florida State in 2018. After evaluating their analysis processes, we made a series of recommendations to tweak an already impressive setup. Coaching staff were enrolled onto our Evidence-Based Coaching & Match Analysis courses and shortly thereafter, it became apparent they would like a dedicated staff member to work on match analysis and opposition scouting.

Using CoachTech’s Analyst Finder service, James Hocken was hired. Having previously worked for Norwich City and the English F.A. James had an immediate impact, taking over the bulk of the video analysis, and streamlining their individual player feedback processes. The coaching staff could now spend more time and mental capacity on player & team development. The Seminoles would go on to win the 2018 National Championship in James’ first year with the team.

Since 2018, the program has become a college soccer leader in analytics & game analysis. James taught a course on campus in this area, as well as conducting research study’s around the women’s game. These findings are of course embedded into how Mark Krikorian and his staff continue to challenge for National Championships.

Hocken was hired by Florida International University as an Assistant Coach, but CoachTech quickly found James Mitchell to replace him in 2020, having previously worked as an analyst for Aberdeen F.C. and the Scottish F.A. This off season will spend some time learning with MLS clubs with help from CoachTech.

With continuing support from CoachTech, Florida State are widely regarded as the place to be for players and analysts alike, and this weekend’s National Championship win continues CoachTech’s hot streak of National Championship success on both the Men’s and Women’s side. CoachTech founder Oliver Gage won the men’s championship with the University of Virginia before moving into a role with Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer.
